Unisport Nationals Cancelled

The news we were dreading to hear is finally official, UniSport Australia (UniSport) has officially cancelled the 2021 Nationals Div 1 and Div 2.

UniSport Nationals presented by UniBank was due to be held from 25 September to 1 October 2021 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The decision comes on the back of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns currently impacting a significant number of universities across the country, including the University of Sydney.

UniSport CEO Mark Sinderberry said “The cancellation of Nationals was not taken lightly. With the current lockdowns and uncertainty as to when the lockdowns will be lifted, it has been impossible for our members and students to confirm their ability to attend.”

“Together with our members, we will work to find suitable alternate state-based competition opportunities to support this.”

The news comes as a disappointment to the University of Sydney Men’s and Women’s basketball programs, who showcased their class during the inaugural University Basketball League (UBL) season. Both the men’s and women’s sides finished top of the table with 5 wins and 1 loss each for the regular season, with the delayed finals still to be announced.
