Expanded 2022 UBL Competition Announced

In an exciting announcement, UniSport Australia has announced the expansion of the University Basketball League Australia (UBL) with four new universities joining the University of Sydney on the courts for the second year of the competition.

Joining the league in 2022 will be Curtin University, Federation University Australia, RMIT University and The University of Adelaide in addition to the seven founding universities: La Trobe University, The University of Melbourne, University of the Sunshine Coast, The University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, The University of Western Australia and Victoria University.

As in the 2021 season, every game of the 2022 UBL will be livestreamed, with the games played mid-week on campus enabling USYD students and alumni to support the University of Sydney.

“We are excited to welcome the four new universities to the UBL competition for 2022,” says UniSport CEO Mark Sinderberry.

“The expansion of the league in its second year is a testament to the success of the UBL competition, the league being built on the incredible passion students have for representing their universities on the national stage.

“The development of the league is also being recognised internationally; with the imminent reopening of our borders, we are very excited at the emerging opportunities for our teams within the Asian rim.”

The 2nd season of UBL will tip off on 22 March 2022, with eight weeks of home and away games culminating in two weeks of finals at the end of May 2022. The grand finals will be a home and away event in the week commencing 23 May 2022.

The news is incredibly exciting for Sydney University, with both our men’s and women’s teams being crowned minor premiers in the inaugural UBL season (in the absence of finals). Stay tuned for an announcement to come from UniSport Australia regarding the full 2022 UBL schedule.
